Mr T

Mr (Dick) Thomas was the grade 6 teacher at Templestowe Heights Primary School that every parent wanted their child to be taught by.

He instilled a love of Australia, of maths, of volleyball and a confidence in self like few others, as children prepared to head into the big world of secondary school.

He taught us to sing and ponder important songs like Streets of London, to memorise Dorothea Mackella's My Country and to show respect for one another.

Mr Thomas, or "Mr T", was shocked that upon retirement hundreds of ex-students visited his favourite pub on the designated day, to tell him he'd made a difference in their lives.

It takes a special person to be a teacher. He certainly was.
